Organic Cauliflower: Flora Blanca. Brassica oleracea var. botrytis.
Flora Blanca is an old Dutch variety. It is one of the few varieties that do not produce a yellowish head, but a beautiful white one. It is most suited for autumn cultivation and this is easier than summer cultivation.
How to grow:
Sow from April to June for transplanting outside after 4 weeks growing from May to July and harvesting from September to December. This variety can withstand winters provided it is covered with fleece during hard frosts. The cauliflower should then be covered with a leaf In order to decrease the risk on early small heads.
Usual slug and pigeon problems when young, and caterpillars in summer, keep well weeded and cover them with enviromesh or something like it. Likes fertile ground, feed well.
Favourite ways to eat them:
So many ways to eat lovely cauliflower. Make it tiny and use as vegan rice. Scrummy in a curry. Good pickled.
