Common name: Long podded poppy. Cailleach Fhada.
Annual. Flowers delicate orangey-red up to 24” tall. Flowering period end of May to mid July.
Attractive and useful to insects of all kinds.
Open meadows and rough ground will tolerate some shade.
Sow late autumn or early spring in a well cleared seed bed or seed tray and prick out when large enough to handle and plant out when big enough. If you want to collect seed for next year, grow poppies apart from other poppies as the hybrid seed is often sterile.
Poppies are thought to ward off thunder storms if left alone, or placed in the eaves of a house.
Seed weight: 10,000 seeds per gram.
