Description

Common name: Wood sage. Iúr sléibhe.

General:
This population originates from Co Down. Irish Grid reference: J573500.
Small perennial. Sage like soft green leaves. Flower spikes arising from basal leaves with small greeny yellow flowers.

Benefits:
Sole food plant of the wood sage flea beetle. Also a source for bees, butterflies, wasps and beetles.

Habitat:
Woodland, sandy dunes and heaths. Drier areas. Not found in central Ireland.

Sowing guidelines:
Sow from autumn to early spring in trays or modules, prick out into modules, then plant out when large enough.

Cultural history:
Upper leaves are edible.

Avg contents: 80 seeds.
